GARDEN STUDY SCHOOLS CONVENTION REPORT 2008

April.15, 2008

Debbie Corales, Carrie Martin Co- Chairs
Dorothy Delaune Treasurer, Registration Chair

Debbie Corales and Carrie Martin took on the task of School Chairman after the LGCF State Convention in April 2007. We asked Dorothy Delaune to act as the registration Chairman and Treasurer.

After accepting the roles as school Chairs and officer the above trio met with Mary Jacobs and Ann Cooksey. The Bank account was transferred to the new committee. At this date the balance is ___. A letter of the committee changes was sent to the National Gardening Study Schools Chairmen.

Carrie Martin, Co-Chair typed all forms and saved them to a word file as they were not available to committee as a computer file. This move enables the committee to use the computer to obtain instructor credentials, Communicate with the National Chair quickly and cheaply.

By Summer board in 2007, Series 8, Course I was set for publication. The Committee chose Baton Rouge Garden Center for the course March 5-6 2008.

At all State District meetings Garden Study School Registration and refresher forms were available for distribution. 1000 forms were printed and passed out in Louisiana Garden club functions.

Publicity on schools was sent to Baton Rouge Parishes, St Tammany Parish Extension Service for Master Gardeners, as they can use it for continuing education credits. The Daylily and Camellia Club were made aware of the school. District Directors were sent several notices between October and February.

With all the Publicity we still had only 5 registered for the school, and of the paid students four were refreshing. With this being course I the committee consulted with former Chairs and Gardening Council President, Jo Anne Ryan as to whether to cancel the course. All were in agreement to continue promoting the school and look at the possibility of moving it to where we could find more students.

Sincerely,

Carrie Martin
Debbie Corales
Dorothy Delaune
