Acres of Green Garden Club was founded in 1957 in Metairie, Louisiana.

The meeting was held at the home of Barbara Richard with co-hostesses Barbara Sandeman and Gwen Maniscalco.   Co-president Lynne Ryan presided.  Business included discussion of the successful Celebration in the Oaks with a letter from JPCGC President Mary Ellen Miller thanking Coleen Landry for helping decorate the Park, submitting a wreath and furnishing numerous photographs for the history display of 25 years of Celebration.  The club participated in Arbor Day at Lafreniere Park with a tree dedicated to Coleen for her years of involvement with the live oaks.

Jeanne Garman, horticulture chairman, discussed the upcoming Bromelliad show and told members where they could buy bromeliads at an inexpensive price. 

Garden of the Month winners were Daisy DiMaggio, Rosalie Edwards, Lynn Courrege and Coleen Landry.
A program about Street and Neighborhood Beautification was presented by Mr. Wayne Nocito, director of Jefferson Parish Parkways.

Members met at the home of Lynn Courrege with co-hostesses being Sara Junot, Mickey Eppling, and Lynn Ryan.

The program was “A Tree is Nice” presented by member Mary Ann Joyner.  A horticulture program about camellias was given by Jeanne Garman who displayed some of the blooms from her garden.

Coleen Landry showed her wreath that was part of the “Mr. Bingle” display at Celebration in the Oaks in City Park.  She also discussed awards for which the club may apply.

Christmas Doorway winners were Phyllis Stacy, Coleen Landry, Betty Wild, Yvette Gagnet and Daisy DiMaggio.  Garden of the Month winners for January are Barbara Richard, Lynne Courrege, Coleen Landry, Rosalie Edwards and Daisy DiMaggio.

Members of Acres of Green Garden Club held its November 2011 meeting at the home of Madeline Polizzi, with Charlotte D'Angelo, Mary Ann Joiner and Daisy DiMaggio as co-hostesses. Co-President Lynne Ryan presided.

Deputy Ken Wolkart of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office's Community Relations Division presented a program on Landscaping Safety and explained how placing trees and shrubs around the house in the proper places can prevent burglars and intruders from getting the upper hand.

 Members were reminded of their philanthropic project for December for the Metropolitan Center for Women and Children. Jeanne Garman, horticulture chairman, gave a report on bulbs, poppies and sweet peas. Following the meeting a delicious Italian lunch was served.

DEDICATION OF BLUE STAR MEMORIAL MARKER

Coleen Perilloux Landry, member of Acres of Green Garden Club and LGCF's Live Oak Society Chairman, participated in the dedication of a Blue Star Memorial Marker on November 10 at Causeway Boulevard and Veterans Boulevard in Metairie. She gave the history of Memorial Park beginning with its inception on June 14, 1981 when a flagpole and garrison-size flag was dedicated to all policemen and firefighters.

Members of Acres of Green Garden Club visit the newly installed Blue Star Marker in Lafitte. 



JOE BAUCUM, president of the Jefferson Parish Council of Garden Clubs and chairman of this Blue Star Marker project, later gave the members a walking tour on the boardwalk over the Lafitte wetlands in keeping with their theme for 2010-2011 "Preserve Our Wetlands".
