JANUARY 2012 REPORTS

OCTOBER 2011 GARDEN OF THE MONTH goes to Mike and Anita McNeal on 713 Main Street, Franklinton LA.

Congrats to the homeowners for doing such an outstanding job of helping to make Franklinton more beautiful and a great place to live, work and play. Anita has bright yellow mums blooming; lovely shrubs and her fall decorations at her door were very eye appealing. Two statues captured your attention as you arrived. Anita was so happy to win and thought Truxillo and Posey were there to sell something until she saw the sign. Anita says she had not won the award since Hurricane Katrina so we were so happy for the family.

ADDISON, ADDISON, HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?

Young Addison Goings, age 4, daughter of Steven and Kelli Goings of Franklinton may be one of our youngest gardeners in the parish as she holds one of the tiny baby squash in the picture. On a recent visit by Minnie Posey, Dist. VI Home and Garden Club member to see Addie's garden, Addie knew all of her plants, naming them confidently as she pointed them out, "squash, cucumbers, bell peppers and eggplant." She also had two flamingos standing guard. Upon questioning her of who helped her, she stated; "her younger sister, Ansley, helped a little, but Mom assisted. Addie waters almost every day and was so very proud of "The Garden", as she called it.
Home and Garden wishes to congratulate Addison and we wish her success as Gardening Month Celebrations are going on. She is the granddaughter of Jim and Vondell Pierce and Bobby and Valerie Goings, all of Franklinton.

Poker Plant RED HOT POKER PLANT BLOOMS AGAIN

Mr. and Mrs. Ken Daughdrill of Lynwood Subdivision in Franklinton, were thrilled to have their special flowers boom again this year. It had six bulbs last year and now has twelve. There were several blooms but the picture shows three of the biggest blooms.

Ann shared three blooms for a special arrangement for demonstrations at the Kick Off for the 100 Year Celebration of the Washington Parish Fair which was put on by District VI's Washington Parish Garden Club Council of Garden Clubs at the Flower House on Saturday, April 30th. Minnie Posey serves as Council President of the Council and will serve as the 2011 Chairman of the Fair Flower Show in October.
